The Promise of Living
February 27, 2022
The Promise of Living is a program of choral music exploring what it means to be human – the simple pleasures of an honest living, the pain of loss, the delight of frivolous fun, the passionate resolve of those seeking justice, the joys and struggles of aging, and the comfort of friends and family. Anchored by Aaron Copland’s iconic “The Promise of Living” from the opera The Tender Land, the concert features an eclectic collage of music by Victoria, Bach, Billings, Bruckner, Rossini alongside folk songs from South Africa and the United States, Gospel music, and compositions by contemporary composers Jake Runestad, Eliza Gilkyson, Shawn Kirchner, and Ysaye Barnwell. Join us for a poignant musical journey through life’s highs and lows!
